In a recent presentation that I gave for the American Medical Association, I had the opportunity to talk about an article[1] that was published on the effect of coaching and its impact on physician well-being. the article was designed to address the question whether professional coaching results in measurable reductions in burnout and measurable improvements in quality of life, resilience, job satisfaction, engagement, in fulfillment in physicians. This was a randomized clinical trial of 88 physician participants who received professional coaching. The results showed a significant reduction in emotional exhaustion and overall symptoms of burnout as well as improvements in overall quality of life and resilience. This is one of the first evidence-based studies that demonstrates that professional coaching may be an effective strategy to reduce burnout and improve physician well-being.
